REALMS OF THE LIMINAL is a dance and art studio founded by choreographer Jia-yi So in order to promote the creation, education, and production of performance art that integrates body and mind.
“The studio’s creation is rooted in people, bodies, and dance, while exploring cross-border experiments and creations that traverse theater, environment, film, digital media and other interactive fields, striving to connect talents and thinking from diverse fields and to break through existing limitations, shaping extraordinary experiences. Through creative collaboration with cutting-edge professional innovators and the development of new methods, the studio launches original works. The spectrum of works ranges from humanistic care to innovative forms and media characteristics.”
Brand Concept
Liminality refers to the threshold between consciousness and unconsciousness, which is triggered by differences between stimulus and response series. In natural and social environments, various physical and chemical stimuli act on a person’s senses, causing corresponding changes in perception. Each stimulus, arranged according to its energy level, can form a stimulus series, which ranges from zero to infinity.
By introducing this psychological and humanistic topic into the field of physical art, and through the interweaving of environment, multimedia, audio-visual and other media, multiple perceptions of the audience are stimulated, breaking through the boundaries of time and space at the scene and entering the artistic field created by the dancers. This process inspires more thinking activities through physical perception.
The word “jian见” in Chinese also means “to make something appear or become visible”.
We use a vertical line to pierce through the core word “LIMINAL”, and hide one half of it, while the other half that is retained can still be recognized. This action is inspired by the term “Liminality”.
